About A11y Live

Making websites work for everyone with real-time testing

Why We Built This

Here's the thing: testing if your website is accessible shouldn't be complicated. We made A11y Live because we wanted something that just works and tells you what's wrong right away.

Too many tools make you wait or give confusing results. We're different. Our tool shows you problems as they happen and explains how to fix them in plain English. No confusing tech terms. No waiting around.

Everyone should be able to use the websites you build. People who can't see well, people who use keyboards instead of a mouse, people with screen readers. Your site should work for all of them.

What A11y Live Does

Think of it like spell-check, but for accessibility. While you're building your website, A11y Live watches for problems and points them out instantly.

Here's what you get:

  • Instant feedback: See problems the moment they appear
  • Visual highlights: Colored markers show you exactly where issues are
  • Easy fixes: Simple instructions with actual code you can copy
  • Learn as you go: Understand why each fix matters for real people
  • WCAG standards: Follows the official web accessibility rules

Why This Stuff Matters

Over a billion people have some kind of disability. That's a lot of people who might struggle with your website if it's not built right.

Making your site accessible isn't just nice to do. It also:

  • Gets you more visitors and makes everyone's experience better
  • Helps your site rank higher on Google
  • Keeps you out of legal trouble (some countries have laws about this)
  • Shows you care about including everyone

How It Works

We built this with vanilla JavaScript (no fancy frameworks needed). The tool uses something called MutationObserver to watch your page for changes in real-time.

What makes it good:

  • Super light: Doesn't slow down your site
  • Fast checks: Smart caching means it doesn't check the same stuff twice
  • You can customize it: Add your own rules if you want by contributing to our github repo
  • Works everywhere: All modern browsers support it

We wanted to make something powerful but also easy to understand, even if you're new to accessibility testing.
